Well, I finished my checkride last night. It really wasn't bad at all. I had a pretty cool examiner who taught a lot during the checkride, which made things interesting.
My sim partner, well, he's in for some more training. Maybe. He has to go see someone from management at the training center on Tuesday, and in the meantime he has to go home. I think they'll let him finish. He's not that far off, and they've invested so much money in him up to this point that it would be stupid to send him home for good.
I also found out that the two other guys from my class who are here will have to retrain their last lesson. It sucks, because they both think they're ready for the checkride, but the instructor didn't. Obviously I'm all for my buddies, but if the instructor knows who the examiner is, and he recommends more training, it's probably a good idea.
So I go home in about 12 hours. It is now officially my wedding anniversary. Two whole years. I was telling my wife earlier tonight that in some ways it feels like we got married last month, and in others it feels like we've been married for twenty years. It's all good, I promise. ;o)
On Tuesday we'll be going on vacation to the Outer Banks. I'm looking forward to it for a few reasons:
1) Time with the wife
2) A break from everyday crap
3) The beach
We're staying in a house that is just on the other side of the dunes from the beach, and we'll be there from Tuesday thru Saturday. We're also taking the kitties so we won't have to have anyone check on them. The whole family's going!
I'm just so happy to be done and going home. It's been a long two months.
So I'm in Manchester today. We flew 2 legs this morning, through LaGuardia, to end up here. The weather wasn't too bad today, but low enough to require the ILS into here (ceilings about 1000'). Oh yeah, there was quite a bit of moisture in the air too (read: not quite raining, but a short walk leaves you covered in mist). Once we got to the hotel, I changed and walked over to the mall, where I was able to pick up a couple of stocking stuffers for Jeannie and also to kill some time. One nice thing about New Hampshire - no sales tax. That in and of itself makes shopping slightly more enjoyable.
Back at the hotel, I took a nap for a few hours before getting up for one of the favorite shows, The Unit. I think it rates right up there with 24 as far as favorite shows go. I try not to miss it, but even when I do, CBS has a video player on their website that will allow you to play the latest episode of most of their programs. Why do I like that show so much? I dunno, maybe what I said about missing the Army has something to do with it. Regardless, I really enjoyed the star, Dennis Haysbert, on 24, so the transition to The Unit was fairly easy.
Jeannie told me that as she was getting ready to call the hospital back today to accept the job, the phone literally rang in her hand as she picked it up. It was human resources at the hospital calling to offer her more money. They offered her $2 more an hour along with the $3000 signing bonus. She promptly accepted. She starts orientation on December 11th. That'll be good for our bottom line, especially with repayment commencing in January for my flight training loan.
I forgot to bring my PJ pants. Not really PJ's, but fleece pants that I wear for lounging. I hate when I forget stuff.
I didn't eat dinner. I'm sort of hungry, but bedtime isn't the best time to eat, especially not for my growing spare tire around the waist. I think I'm up to 190lbs now. I really want to work out and get back into shape, but I'm so damn lazy. I looked at trying to get involved with some adult sports in Roanoke, but there just isn't much going on other than adult basketball, which is just about over, and touch football, which is over. They do have an indoor softball league (plastic bat and wiffleball) that is getting ready to start soon, but 1) I wouldn't necessarily call that an athletic activity, and 2) I suck at baseball/softball/wiffleball. I dunno, maybe I should think about it. What I would really like is for Roanoke to have adult coed volleyball. That would be something I could really get in to, but of course, it doesn't exist. I even looked at adult kickball and dodgeball leagues, but the closest teams are several hours from the ROA. I'll find something.
What a waste. I didn't do a damn thing today.
Well, not entirely true. I watched most of Back to the Future and a little bit of Back to the Future II. And then we went to Best Buy where we bought some vacuum cleaner bags. And then we went to eat at the Olive Garden. And then we went to Target and bought a wreath and a shower caddy. And then we came home.
So I haven't really said much about my wife. Not that I haven't wanted to, I just haven't. One of the things that bugs me about her is the whole name thing. I think we've finally gotten it nailed down, but it's taken a while. When we met, her name was Jenny. So to me, my family, my closest friends, and her parents, her name is Jenny. Well, we moved to Texas together, and once she started working (more about this some other time), she never told her employer that she goes by Jenny. Her legal first name is Dora, and so that's what they called her. Fine, no biggie. Then when we moved to Arizona, she decided that she was going to go by Jeannie. Her middle name is Jean, so Jeannie works too. But what the hell? My family and friends are confused. Not confused, but they don't know what to think about it all. One of my close friends was embarassed when she called my wife "Jenny" but then later learned that she goes by "Jeannie". She (my friend) thought it was her fault, and then she blamed me for not "correcting" her. Not that any of this is a big deal, it's just my current rant.
But I love her to death...she IS my wife, after all... ;o)
