So I'm in Manchester today. We flew 2 legs this morning, through LaGuardia, to end up here. The weather wasn't too bad today, but low enough to require the ILS into here (ceilings about 1000'). Oh yeah, there was quite a bit of moisture in the air too (read: not quite raining, but a short walk leaves you covered in mist). Once we got to the hotel, I changed and walked over to the mall, where I was able to pick up a couple of stocking stuffers for Jeannie and also to kill some time. One nice thing about New Hampshire - no sales tax. That in and of itself makes shopping slightly more enjoyable.
Back at the hotel, I took a nap for a few hours before getting up for one of the favorite shows, The Unit. I think it rates right up there with 24 as far as favorite shows go. I try not to miss it, but even when I do, CBS has a video player on their website that will allow you to play the latest episode of most of their programs. Why do I like that show so much? I dunno, maybe what I said about missing the Army has something to do with it. Regardless, I really enjoyed the star, Dennis Haysbert, on 24, so the transition to The Unit was fairly easy.
Jeannie told me that as she was getting ready to call the hospital back today to accept the job, the phone literally rang in her hand as she picked it up. It was human resources at the hospital calling to offer her more money. They offered her $2 more an hour along with the $3000 signing bonus. She promptly accepted. She starts orientation on December 11th. That'll be good for our bottom line, especially with repayment commencing in January for my flight training loan.
I forgot to bring my PJ pants. Not really PJ's, but fleece pants that I wear for lounging. I hate when I forget stuff.
I didn't eat dinner. I'm sort of hungry, but bedtime isn't the best time to eat, especially not for my growing spare tire around the waist. I think I'm up to 190lbs now. I really want to work out and get back into shape, but I'm so damn lazy. I looked at trying to get involved with some adult sports in Roanoke, but there just isn't much going on other than adult basketball, which is just about over, and touch football, which is over. They do have an indoor softball league (plastic bat and wiffleball) that is getting ready to start soon, but 1) I wouldn't necessarily call that an athletic activity, and 2) I suck at baseball/softball/wiffleball. I dunno, maybe I should think about it. What I would really like is for Roanoke to have adult coed volleyball. That would be something I could really get in to, but of course, it doesn't exist. I even looked at adult kickball and dodgeball leagues, but the closest teams are several hours from the ROA. I'll find something.
I've got an early report tomorrow. 5:45 to be precise. It's now 11:33pm. I love to fly. I hate to work. No, not really. I just hate being away from home so much. I need a corporate flying job that doesn't involve so much time away.
Anyway, today involved laziness for a while, and then we got busy. Not in that sense.
We unpacked a bunch of boxes, took out the empties, set up the Christmas tree, and bought a shredder. We left our old shredder in Phoenix.
We left a lot of stuff in Phoenix. We still can't find our silverware, and we've been here for a month. We still have a few more boxes to unpack, but it's not looking good. I can't believe the movers forgot to pack the damn silverware.
I've got J's Christmas present in my Jeep. I really don't have any other good places to put it. I can leave it in there and it will be fine, but I've got to wrap it eventually. I guess when I get back on Thursday...maybe.
So she got a call today from the hospital. They offered her the job, albeit at $21 an hour. Just for reference, she was making $28 in Phoenix. I guess that's to be expected, but it still sucks. Oh well, at least it's a job. And it's what she wants to do. The most important thing is for her to be doing what she wants to do while I'm away all of the time. If she were unhappy, things would really suck with me being away.
Time to iron the shirt. I hate ironing shirts. But I hate having wrinkled shirts even more than I hate ironing. I guess that's the Army in me.
Speaking of the Army, I've come to the realization that I miss it. That pisses me off. This "grass is always greener" bullshit sucks. No matter what you do, you always think that something else is better. Not that I think the Army is better, 'cause it's certainly not. I just miss the camaraderie, the paycheck, the flying, and the people. Oh well.
Back to that shirt. Tomorrow nite I'll be in Manchester, NH.
